Several members of the School of Philosophy's faculty are truly internationally renowned in their fields. Few programs anywhere rival us in the study and teaching of the great medieval philosophers, but we also have very significant strengths in ancient philosophy and nineteenth and twentieth century German philosophy. Despite the wide range of philosophical interests represented in the School, the faculty as a whole is marked by a notable esprit de corps. What unites us is our common commitment to the School's distinctive academic mission as the nation's only Catholic school of philosophy.
We also take a highly personal approach to teaching philosophy. Although we have a large graduate program, faculty members do not use teaching assistants, opting instead to engage with undergraduate students directly. Small class sizes foster a free-flowing exchange between professors and students. With the help of great classical texts in philosophy, we together aspire to a more adequate understanding of the great, wide world.
