    Joseph R. Wood teaches philosophy at The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. He previously taught for nine years at the Institute of World Politics in Washington D.C., Walsh University in Ohio, and the University of Notre Dame Australia. He has taught as well at a variety of graduate seminars in Europe, focusing on moral and political philosophy.  He earned a B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy; a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government; a diploma as a graduate of the French Joint Defense College, Paris; and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the School of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America. His masters thesis was on the human person in the work of Msgr. Robert Sokolowski and Alasdair MacIntyre, and his doctoral dissertation studied the work of Pierre Manent on political form. He is a retired Air Force colonel and had fighter operational and command tours in Europe and Asia.  Among various staff positions, he served in the White House as Deputy National Security Advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, with responsibility for all policy involving Europe, Eurasia, Africa, and defense issues.
